Immanuel Baptist Church

Pastor Taylor is a native of Pine Bluff and a graduate of Pine Bluff High School. He attended Ouachita Baptist University and received his B.A. in1967. He did graduate Work at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, California. He received his Master of Divinity degree from there in 1970 and the Doctor of Ministry degree in 1980. While attending Seminary, Pastor Taylor served as a Student Chaplain at San Quentin State Prison for two years. He has served as Pastor in Arkansas, Chicago and the San Francisco Bay area. Pastor Taylor and his wife JoAnne have two grown children and eight grandchildren.   



Immanuel Baptist Church was started as a mission by First Baptist Church in August, 1911 for the people in the vicinity of 17th and Hazel Streets. The first building was located at 18th and Hazel and was built on Thanksgiving Day, 1911.The first service was held that Thanksgiving night and a man was saved. It was organized as a church on October 4, 1914 and was known as Hazel Street Baptist Church. In December, 1936 the church relocated to 17 th and Hickory with a new building. The name was changed to Immanuel Baptist Church. A new auditorium and classrooms were added and first used in October, 1956. For nearly 100 years Immanuel has been a testimony of faith in the city of Pine Bluff. It is a church where you will find a warm welcome.
